"While a good percentage of Matthew's customers just stop in to pick up their orders, eating in the dining room is something you should try at least once. The walls include maps of Italy, the floor is linoleum and the service is excellent. The latter is impressive considering waitresses usually are the ones who have to take care of carryout customers as well as those dining in. After several visits we still haven't figured out crowd patterns, since some nights the place is full (often with Baltimore's finest) and on other nights we were the only patrons.
The menu consists of pasta, subs and salads as well as the featured pies. Many customers split a salad as an appetizer while waiting for their pizza. We can't speak for the quality of the pasta and sandwiches because the pizza is too big of an attraction to try anything else...
...The pizzas are like no other in Baltimore. The menu promises that the crust and sauce are freshly made every day, and the flavor certainly makes that statement believable. The crust has a flavor all its own and is almost an inch thick. The sauce is chunky, and isn't so seasoned that you can't enjoy the flavor of the tomatoes. The pizzas come in Original, which includes sauce but no cheese; Traditional, with tomatoes and a blend of cheeses; Popular, featuring tomatoes and mozzarella; Both Cheeses, which means tomatoes and grated parmesan and mozzarella cheeses; and the Great White with cheese, sweet onions and no tomatoes.
While the pizzas are just fine on their own, you can top them off with a great selection of toppings, including green stuffed olives, portabella mushrooms, and, for slightly more cash, roma sausage, homemade meatballs or shrimp. There are also two specialty pies. The Crab Pie features backfin crabmeat, your choice of cheese and onions. Anna's Stuffed Pie is stuffed with provolone and your choice of prosciutto, capicola or salami, then topped with mozzarella cheese.
Desserts aren't done in-house, but it's hard to argue with cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory and Vaccaro's cannoli to finish off a superb meal. Matthew';s also has a small but good selection of beer and wine to accompany your pizza."
